Copenhagen Trip 3
It was raining again today. Not as bad as the first day though. We headed off anyway to see the last of our touristy things. We first went to the Rosenborg Slot which holds the Danish royal treasures. They had a load of priceless jewellery and historical artefacts. The high security vault had some of the most amazing treasures that we have ever seen, in particular the crown of Christian IV. The detail in this crown was astounding with individual scenes made out of pure gold and built into the crown.
Our next stop was the ruins of the fortress of Absalom. The Fortress of Absalom was first built in the year 1066 as a strong hold to protect the people of Copenhagen from the Vikings that often invaded the city. The ruins were uncovered during the second rebuilding of the Christiansborg palace in the 1950’s. The original palace had been built upon the old fortress after the ground level of the city was raised. The ruins were very well preserved with evidence of old rooms and ovens and even the original water well.
We then looked at the retail store for the official royal jeweller - Georg Jensen. Carmen tried to get a family free-bee but they didn’t want to play. After this we thought we better have some Danish ice cream seeing we were in the country. We had heaps of trouble finding a genuine Danish Ice-cream shop - it is easier to find one in Brisbane! We went home for an early night seeing as we had to get up at 3:30am to get to the airport for our 5:50am departure back to Manchester.
